It was not meant as an overall critique of the Ozone legacy.ĥ utilizes additional limiting algorithms, modeled eqs, and a supposedly better reverb. The OP is asking THOSE folks- who have used both- if the UPGRADE from 4 to 5 is worth it. This is a thread for folks that have ozone 4 (and presumably liked it). What are the odds ozone is best in the market at all of those? Or even hold the crown at any one for any length of time? I tend to doubt it, in the long run I just don't see the value.

Widener, MS, or good new eq's that do ms. Outside of that, and something like surfer, I kinda doubt plug eq's will do much in the next x years.Įxciters, yawn, good eq+good limiter with bass cut in parallel is better than any exciter IMO. Maybe right now fabfilter's pro-L can take a stab at replacing L2007 but I also know 2007 in and out and have owned it for 4 years with no upgrade cost.ĮQ, I'm still rocking oxford eq, but maybe I'm thinking equality or fabfilter pro-q could be the next thing. EG my list is still L2007, DSM, and FG-X. Where you are ready to spend the dough, what you are looking at is maybe 1 new limiter/loudenizer a year at most.

I know there will always be lovers of certain product ranges, but now that things have sorta shaken out with plugs I don't see the point of something like ozone. But given the vast world of software out there comparable in price, I think you're better off with a choice insert chain from multiple sources.Īll that said, I know plenty of engineers who use Ozone and love it. The other two, underwhelming.Īt this point there's a whole lot of "good" in the soup here, and not a lot of "great." At every stage of the game I feel there's a better tool for the job. When does anyone use reverb in mastering? Answer: Only when they shouldn't. Easy to overdo though - and I'm not really one for split band imaging across an entire mix unless the mix is already goofed to begin with. In fairness I didn't try it more than a couple of times, because that much suck doesn't warrant a third go around in my book. Even on the subtlest settings I think it pretty much ruins the mix - sucks the depth right out of it. It's a little weird getting used to the settings, but it sounds good to me. I like their compression, and multi-band compression. That said, there isn't much in the software world that does. As an EQ it's as good as any overall, but for something to strap across a whole mix it doesn't do it for me. However - of all the things Ozone offers, the percentage of what I like is exceptionally low. There are certain things I do like about Ozone. Personally i really like the sound of Ozone especially on EDM style sources.I should probably rephrase it actually. I haven't tried t-racks yet and am keen to after reading what others are saying. Sure, It really is a love of hate type software it seems.
